He was the fattest. And he was the the king.

Brazilian Ronaldo was my idol as a teenager.

I even drew him as a GCSE art project (right). 

He won the FIFA World Player of the Year Award three times, won numerous club and country honours and was the record goal scorer in World Cup history.

He managed all of these marvels despite having three career threatening knee injuries and struggling with weight issues throughout the second half of his career.

In his later years, he was diagnosed with and medicated for hypothyroidism.

The man's thyroid gland was lazy and that contributed to him piling on the pounds.

He even went on the Brazilian version of the TV show 'The Biggest Loser' after retiring.

 

The guy wasn't clinically obese during his playing days but was noticeably bigger than the other players.

And yet still he schooled them. 

You can see the terror he was still capable of in the final year or so of his career in the embedded video with a very strange soundtrack choice that actually has some relevance in an upcoming article.
